She chaired the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

India's Nobel Peace Laureates
India has two Nobel Peace Prize laureates:
Mother Teresa (1979): Recognised for her work among suffering and vulnerable people.
Kailash Satyarthi (2014): Shared the prize with Malala Yousafzai for their work against the exploitation of children and for children's right to education.
Satyarthi founded the Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
Significance
The award highlights the growing importance of international law, human rights and accountability in maintaining global peace.

The Nobel Peace Prize can strengthen the international visibility and moral influence of individuals and organisations working for peace.
About International Criminal Court (ICC):
The ICC is the only permanent international criminal court, established under the Rome Statute, which entered into force on 1 July 2002.
It prosecutes individuals for genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and aggression.
It follows the principle of complementarity, acting when national courts are unwilling or unable to prosecute.
Unlike the ICJ, it tries individuals, not disputes between states.
It has 18 judges, a Prosecutor and a Registry.
125 countries are parties; India, China, the US, Russia and Israel are not.
About Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR):
OHCHR is the UN’s leading body for promoting and protecting human rights under international law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948.
It works to prevent abuses, address violations and strengthen implementation of human rights standards.
It supports the Human Rights Council, treaty bodies and governments through research, education and technical assistance.
Its field operations help implement human rights programmes on the ground.
OHCHR also works with civil society, national human rights institutions and international organisations, including on issues such as HIV/AIDS.
It promotes stronger national human rights institutions and international cooperation.
